For families
Four weeks of Talk Money at home
Two minutes a week, one question at a time. The parent asks and listens; the child decides and explains. There are no wrong answers.
“When is a good two minutes each week for us to talk about your money?”
Any day works. The campaign posts land on Saturdays, but your family picks its own moment.
- Week 01 · See itNov 7
“What money came in this week — and where did it go?”
Then ask: Which of those did you choose, and which just happened?
Just notice together. Nothing needs fixing yet.
- Week 02 · Decide itNov 14
“What should this money do next?”
Then ask: Why did you pick that?
Your child chooses across Spend, Save and Give. There is no right split.
- Week 03 · ReflectNov 21
“Was that purchase or goal worth it?”
Then ask: What would you do the same, or differently, next time?
A regret is useful information, not a mistake to punish.
- Week 04 · Build itNov 28
“What family money rule will help before the holidays?”
Then ask: How will we know the rule is working?
Choose one rule together and write it where everyone can see it.
Want a structure for it? Take the Monty O'Clock Monthly Challenge!
Optional. Monty gives the weekly two minutes a home in the app, using your child's real money. Four free Monty O'Clocks. No credit card required.
For organizations
Ready-made posts
Use them as written or add one line about why your organization cares about money conversations. Tag Monty (@getmonty.ca on Instagram) if you mention us; it's optional.
Financial literacy is a practical life skill — and it can begin with one honest, age-appropriate conversation.
This Financial Literacy Month, we're joining local organizations to help make talking about money feel more normal for families.
Try this two-minute family prompt: If you had $10 today, would you spend, save, or give it? Ask why — there is no perfect answer.
Parent guides. Child decides. Family reflects.
November is Financial Literacy Month in Canada. This year's national campaign from the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada is called Talk Money, and it starts with a simple idea: money conversations build confidence.
An easy way to start at home: set aside two minutes each week in November for one money question with your child. A free four-week family prompt sheet is at getmonty.ca/flm-2026/kit, and the official campaign resources are on Canada.ca (search "Financial Literacy Month").
Money conversations build confidence. This #FLM2026, try two minutes with your kids: if you had $10 today, would you spend, save, or give it? Ask why. #TalkMoney
